Discussion

This was a small, sub-rectangular spit, excavated to define the relationship between two enclosure ditches at the interface between the chalk and hillwash, at the western edge of the dry valley. It demonstrated that the east-west aligned ditch 012AD07210 cut the north-south aligned 012AD07221. The material removed was a sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). An Anglian sherd, together with an unfired clay loomweight, were among the finds.
